1. Sunnah.org
http://www.sunnah.org
This is a site to beware of. It is full of deviant Sufism. It has a page in praise of Qasidat -ul Burdaa. It claims that Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al Qayyim, Ibn Hazm, Al-Jazai’ri, Al Abanee and bin Baz are all Innovators!!
Among other false claims on the website are the following statements about Kashf:
Kashf (Unveiling) is a reality which refers to the miraculous knowledge of the awliya (Friends of Allah). Such knowledge attains higher levels than that of any other knowledge of humankind and jinn including in certain cases the knowledge of Prophets…
Thus it is related by one of the Imams of hadith whose word lies beyond suspicion, that “it is well-known that he (Imam Nawawi) used to meet with al-Khidr (as)” and converse with him among many other mukaashafaat
2. I Profess.com
http://www.iprofess.com/english.htm
You should know this site so you can avoid its potential harm. This site is meant for new Muslims or non-Muslims thinking about Islaam. Judging from the home page you would feel like recommending this site to new Muslims.
But once on this site, a person is just one click away (literally) from sites which are steeped in deviant Sufi ideas. Also those sites have long articles which try to prove that Kashf, Tariqah, etc are all Islaamically valid. A person without sufficient grounding in the basics may fall into their lure or at least begin to have some doubts. Keep new comers away from this site and there is no benefit in it for ‘old hands’ either.
3. Sunni Path.com
http://www.sunnipath.com/
Suffice it to say that this is a site which teaches the Nu Ha Mim Keller and Faraz Rabbani brand of Sufism
4. Living Islam
http://www.abc.se/~m9783/index.html
Among the false teachings of this site is the following example:
Sharî`ah, Tarîqah And Haqîqah
The Tarîqah or Spiritual Path which is usually known as Tasawwuf or Sufism is the inner and esoteric dimension of Islam and like the Sharî`ah has its roots in the Quran and prophetic practice.
5. The Modern Religion.com
http://www.themodernreligion.com/
This site is similar to the above sites but more dangerous because its deviant Sufi teachings are not evident in the initial pages.
6. The Way to Truth.org
http://www.thewaytotruth.org/
Here’s yet another site which does not reveal its true teachings until you are way inside the site. There are long pseudo Islaamic Articles with analogies like the one of a circle and its radii trying to prove their deviant ideas right.
To provide a glimpse of their teachings we have excerpted the following from their site:
Sainthood is a proof for Messengership
Sainthood is a proof for Messengership and the way or spiritual order (tariqa) is evidence for the Shari‘a. For a saint experiences with certainty of seeing the truths of belief communicated by the Messenger and confirms them through the witnessing of his heart and the spiritual pleasure he derives. Such confirmation is a decisive proof for the truth of Divine Messengership.
In another place they have posted the following articles:

What Does Knowledge Of God Is Different From Knowledge Of His Existence Mean?
The Nine Clarifications About Muslim Sufism And Following A Spiritual Order
7. Al Baz.com
http://www.al-baz.com/
Rating: Deviant site
This is the site for Al Baz book publishers and not a full fledged site. However it has some extracts from their publications so it turns up on search engine queries for Islaamic terms. That’s how we came across this site. Also it is good to know about al Baz publishers so as to avoid buying some of their publications by mistake as their stated goals is ‘… to publish fine English translations of the Treasures of Islam; in particular the works of the great Muslim saints, with special emphasis on the writings and majalis [sessions] of the Chieftain of the Saints, Sultan al-Awliya’ Hazrat Shaikh Muhyi’d-din ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, al-Hasani, al-Husaini, may Allah perfume his resting place.’
Here’s an extract from one of their publications posted on the site::
This book contains the words of the Supreme Helper, the Lordly Cardinal Pole, the everlasting edifice, the radiantly shining lamp, the Sultan of the saints and the masters of direct knowledge, the proof of the chosen and those who have reached their spiritual destination, Allah’s Gray Falcon, our patron, our master and our exemplary guide to Allah (Exalted is He), the noble highborn patrician, the chieftain, Shaikh Muhyi ‘d-Din ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani al-Hasani al-Husain…
8. Islam Rocks.com
http://www.islamrocks.com/
This site claims to be about traditional Islam but promotes Sufism and forbidden types of tasawwuf
http://www.masud.co.ukDeviant site promoting Sufis such as Nuh Keller and Abdul Hakim Murad. It has a lot of articles on refuting Salafees which Nuh Keller seems to have a zeal for.
They also promote Q magazine which is a tabloid that’s supposed to be Islaamic but has Sufi undertones.
10. Vashubah.com
http://www.vasuhba.com/
The Official Site of the Murids of Shaykh Nuh Keller
Very flashy site inviting you to lessons in Tasawuff by Nuh keller Lessons are offered in the sufi path and tariqas
11. TariqaTapes.com
http://www.tariqatapes.com/
Tariqa Tapes is an online site dedicated to serving the murids of the Hashimi-Darqawi Order of the Tariqa of Imam Abul Hasan Al-Shadhili Allah be well pleased with him. Recorded darses available on this site are lectures given by Shaykh Nuh Keller
12. Our world by A.Bewely
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/ABewley/
http://bewley.virtualave.net/
Aisha Bewely has translated Adab al mufrad and many gems on Maliki fiqh on her site but sadly promotes Sufisim and group Dhikr. http://bewley.virtualave.net/ this is the newer version of her website but still promotes the same.
After the above sampling of some Sufi sites we are providing below a list only of other such sites.

Wa alaikumussalaam wa rahmathullah wa barakathuh.
Sufis are deviants from Ahlu Sunnah so their websites are also deviant from the correct Islamic Faith.
ALLAH knows BEST.
salaam maatezee anyone who doent follow the quran n sunna of the prophet(pbuh) has gone astray neither does Allah or His messenger order the muslims to call themselves sufis so that it self is an innovation
Assalaam alaykum
Al-Imaam Shaafiee was a follower of Quran and Sunnah and Imaam Shaafiee was not a Sufi. Thats a false claim. Non of the four imaams were Sufis. They all worked hard to explain the people of their time in the best way regarding Quran and Sunnah.
Even I am a follower of Imaam shafiee but not in cases where other imaams say best ruling than shaafiee. so I follow Quran and sunnah and I follow blindly only Prophet Muhammadh (May peace and blessing be upon him).
Imaam Abu hanifaa, Imaam Maalik, Imaam Shaafiee and Imaam Ahmadh bin Hanbal were NOT sufis. They were followers of Quran and Sunnah. They didn’t practice or call for any innovation as the Sufis do.
ALLAH knows BEST.
Noorulislam are you are scholar? if not bring out the fatwa, if so bring us the source.
lascivous really have misunderstood a fatwaa and a normal writing. so learn the differences and argue back with the scholers in Maldives if u people can win in any way.
Salaams bro,
Haven’t you got anything better to do then attack your fellow Muslims???
Masha’Allah, The proof that there is only ONE G’d and that Islam is the Way wich is MOST straight, are the SEVERAL tribes who had NO contact with the outside world! They Follow Islam in (almost) every way, they pray like us, they believe in ONE G’d, who does NOT beget, Nor was He begotten, Who CANNOT be carved out of Rock or wood(because you can’t make Images out of Light)!! They follow Islam, only with a different label!!
This is the NATURAL way of Life(Dien al-Fitrah)
Sufism is a sensitive Issue, Is it or is it not an Innovation??
Innovation MUST be avoided, because it could derail your faith!!
When we study the Quraan and Sunnah of the Prophet, we COULD follow Muhammad(saaw) in his footsteps!!
PS: I DISLIKE Claims of Sufis, why??
Because the Belief that we could ACTUALLY SEE Allah(SWT) and Communicate with Him is a CLEAR INNOVATION, even though they LOVE Allah(swt) so much that they desire to SEE Him!!
There is a Possibility to SEE Him, if your Love for HIM is extensive(AS Moesa(as) when he asked Allah(swt) to show Himself to him), He will appear Masha’Allah in your Dreams!!
If you See Allah(swt) in your Dreams, you reached Taqwaa and sincere Devotion to Allah(swt)(Through Prayer and Dhikr)
Grave “Worship” (by asking for Intercession for ANYONE)by Sufis and Shi’i is also a HERETICAL INNOVATION!!
I myself Studied the Quraan and Sunnah/Way of the Prophet, and I feel SAD to know how we have divided ourselves!! For what…
POLITICAL REASONS
Shi’i claim that ‘Ali(as) should have been the Rightfull Successor, even though ‘Ali(ra) for the Sake of Islam/Unity of the Ummah, gave Bai’ah to AbuBakr(ra) eventually(while the Descendants of the Supporters of ‘Ali(ra) denounce Ali’s Bai’ah to AbuBakr(ra) as “Forced”!!
While Sunni accept Qadr(Predestination), praising the first 4 Caliphs as Rightly Guided!!
Shi’i reject MOST Saheeh Hadith, While the narrations of the Ahlul-Bayt are found in the Saheed Hadith!!
The Most Neutral in MY opinion are the Ahlul-Sunnah, who bear NO grudge towards the Family of the Prophet(saaw)!!
while Shi’i DESPISE the 3Caliphs as “False gods”
and DISLIKE the wife of the Prophet(saaw), Aicha(ra) EVEN though this goes AGAINST Quranic Rules!!
Thanx for reading my LONG comment!!
Salaam
“There is a Possibility to SEE Him, if your Love for HIM is extensive(AS Moesa(as) when he asked Allah(swt) to show Himself to him), He will appear Masha’Allah in your Dreams!!”
What i meant here is that, if a Muslim LOVES Allah(swt) extensively(As Moesa(as) LOVED Allah(swt), and Remembers Allah(swt), and Worships NONE besides with Sincere Devotion, then with the Grace of Allah(swt) HE will allow you to see Him when he takes your soul during Sleep!!
[039:042] It is Allâh Who takes away the souls at the time of their death, and those that die NOT during their sleep. He keeps those (souls) for which He has ordained death and sends the rest for a term appointed.
[007:143] …he said: “O my Lord! Show me (Yourself), that I may look upon You.” Allâh said: “You cannot see Me…
006:103] No vision can grasp Him, but He grasps all vision…
Gabriel asked: what is Al-Ihsan (Faithfulness) ? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you worship Allah AS IF you are seeing Him, and in case you fail to see Him, then observe that He is seeing you!!
Is the Above Hadith Convincing enough to Go Mystic!!
I Don’t think when one observes Quraan AND Hadith, that they would see the hadith as proof for Mystical Rituals!!
Well Thanx Again for reading my ExtraComment!
Salaam
sufism is not an innovation it is a part of islam
either imam abu hanifa or malik, i forget who said:
“Whoever learns Fiqh but not Tasawwuf(i.e sufism i.e purifying the heart) becomes a Fasiq(transgressor), and
Whoever learns Tasawwuf and makes that his fiqh in the public realm is a hypocrite. (playing God)”
we need both
look at this post it is called Sufism and Islam.
http://tradicionalista.wordpress.com/2007/08/20/sufism-and-islam/
Tasawwuf should be defined!!
Does it include Mystic communion with Allah(swt)??
Does it Include Mystical rituals??
The Perfect example for us is Prophet Muhammad(saaw)!!
Without the Prophetic Quality(Revelation)
he did before Islam practice meditation, but during he NightJourney, he and his Ummah were ordered to Perform Salaat 5 Times(so there was no need for meditation)
The way to come closer to Allah(swt) is through Salaat, fasting, Constant Remembrance of Allah(swt), reciting the Holy Quraan, Avoid commiting Sins, NOT to commit Shirk( ex: asking intercession by the dead, Grave veneration, making legal what Allah(swt) and His Messenger made Illegal, …)
The best example for us are the Tabi’een, followers of the Tabi’een and followers of the followers of Tabi’een!!
Reply to tradicionalista;
Ihsan Means perfection!!
How to achieve this state of Perfection??
Through sincere Devotion to Allah(swt) in all aspects of Life!!
That you worship Allah AS IF you are seeing Him, and in case you fail to see Him, then KNOW that He is seeing you!!
AS IF seeing, is not the Same as FACTUALLY seeing!!
When you feel His Presence(through Worship), it is AS you are seeing Him!!
Let’s take a lesson from Moesa(as), When out of Love he asked Allah(swt) to show Himself to him!
[007:143] …”O my Lord! Show me (Yourself), that I may look upon You.” Allâh said: “You cannot see Me, but look upon the mountain; IF it stands still in its place then you shall see Me.” So when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He made it collapse to dust…
This verse implies that the Earth is UNable to receive even a Glimpse of its Creater, let alone man!!
My Question is, why are we NOT patient of Meeting and Seeing our Lord, why MUST we see Him in this life, while he has prepared for the Believers In Him, a Place wich NO eye has seen!! THAT is the place where The Believers will be pleased by Allah(swt) and He is pleased with Them!!
My Advise; Work Hard in this Life, through ALL that your Lord and Messenger has commanded you, to achieve the Highest level and be amongst those Nearest to Allah(swt)!!
That is the Greatest Succes!!
What is your opinion on Jihad(Defensive and offensive) ???
[002.216]…it may be that you…LIKE A THING WICH IS BAD FOR YOU. Allâh KNOWS but you do not know.
Masha’Allah, i can only advise you, not to choose a path wich can damage your faith, as long it remains withing the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah!!
Really we live in an Age that is EXTREMELY deceitfull!!
When you act upon Allah’s kalam(Quran) and Prophet Muhammad’s Sunnah, you should not fear of deviating from the Sirat Al-Mustaqim!!
Mezian, are you half Amazigh or Arabic speaking Amazigh??(because most Moroccans are Amazigh)
What is your opinion on Ibn ‘Arabi??
Imaam Ash-Shaa’fee on Sufism:
“If a person exercised Sufism (Tasawafa) at the beginning of the day, he does not come to Dhuhur except an idiot.” [Talbees Iblees].
“Nobody accompanied the Sufis forty days and had his brain return (ever).” [Talbees Iblees].
“Sufism is a shameful deception which begins with Dhikr and ends with Kufr. Its outward manifestation appears to be piety, but its inward reality forsakes the Commandments of Allah.” [Illat-Tasawwuf Yaa Ibadallah].
Ash-Sheikh Muhammad ibn Rabee’ ibn Haadee Al-Madkhalee, a well known teacher at the Islamic University of Medinah and the son of a well known scholar, brings in his book “Haqeeqatus Soofiyyah Fee Dau’il Kitaabi Was Sunnah”, the following:
Concerning the practice of the Sufiyyah in wearing woolen clothing as a sign of Zuhd (abstemiousness/disassociation from the wordly life) and in their attempt to mirror the Prophet ‘Isa (AS):
“Ibn Taymiyah (R) mentions in Al-Fataawaa (11/7) from Muhammad ibn Seereen (a famous Tabi’ee who died in 110H) that it reached him that a certain people had taken to wearing woollen clothes in order to resemble ‘Isa ibn Maryam (AS), so he said: ‘There are a people (Sufis) who have chosen and preferred the wearing of woollen clothes, claiming that they want to resemble Al-Maseeh ibn Maryam (AS). But the way of our Prophet (s.a.w.s) is more beloved to us, and the Prophet (s.a.w.s) used to wear cotton and other garments.”
Sheikh Al-Madkhalee goes on:
“As regards the first appearance of Sufism, then the word “Sufism” was not known in the time of the Sahâbah, indeed it was not well-known in the first three and best centuries. Shaykhul Islam Ibn Taymiyah (R), mentions that the first appearance of Sufism was in Basrah in ‘Iraaq, where some people went to extremes in worship and in avoiding the worldly life, such as was not seen in other lands. [Al-Fataawaa (11/6)].”
Commenting on the reaction of the early Sufis while hearing Qur’an being recited (it was their practice to fall out and act dumb-struck), Ibn Taymiyah (R) says:
“This was not found to occur amongst the Sahâbah, so when it appeared a group of the Companions and the Tabi’een such as Asmaa bint Abi Bakr and ‘Abd Allah Az-Zubair and Muhammad ibn Seereen criticised that since they saw that it was An innovation and contrary to what they knew from the manners of the Sahâbah.” [Al-Fataawaa (11/6)].
Concerning the spread of Sufism, Ibn Al-Jawzy said: “Sufism is a way whose beginning was complete avoidance of the affairs of worldly life, then those who attached themselves to it became lax in allowing singing and dancing. Therefore, the seekers of the Hereafter from the common people became attracted to them due to the avoidance of the worldly life which they manifested, and the seekers after this world were also attracted to them due to the life of ease and frivolity which they were seen to live.” [Talbees Iblis].
The Mechanism of the order structure in Sufism leads to many evil results:
Division of the Muslim ummah into fractions and orders ruled by deviant and ignorant Sheikhs, thus making the ummah an easy prey for conquest by non-Muslims.
Enmity among the adherents of different orders, to the point that they will not marry into one another’s families or cooperate with one another.
Deception on the part of the Sheikh, who falsely claims the ability to deliver the murid from difficulties and deadly problems the befall him. The Sheikh even claims he will be present at the murid’s death, regardless of time or place, and ridiculously enough, will instruct him in his grave on what to tell the two angels of the grave, and will argue with them on his behalf. Finally, the Sheikh promises to intercede for him with Allah on the Day of Judgment, and to help cross over as-Siraat (the bridge over Hell) on that Day, and accompany him to Jannah.
This kind of deception, offering security in the grave as well as in the Hereafter, is a flagrant lie, not permissible under any circumstance. Sufi Sheikhs lead simple-minded Muslims to believe in such claims, and the result is shirk (polytheism). Deceiving Muslims is one of the major sins.
s there any such thing in Islam as the numerous tareeqahs like the Naqshbandiya, Qaadriya, Chhishtiya, Saharvardiya, Khalwatiyyah, Shaadhiliyyah, Rifaaiyyah, Rehmaaniya, Rizviya, Subhaniya, Gausiya, Teejaaniyah, Sanusiyyah, Sahiliyyah etc? If there is such a thing, what is the evidence for that? What is the meaning of the verses in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And verily, this is My straight path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al‑Muttaqoon (the pious)” [al-An’aam 6:153]
“And upon Allaah is the responsibility to explain the Straight Path. But there are ways that turn aside (such as Paganism, Judaism, Christianity). And had He willed, He would have guided you all (mankind)” [al-Nahl 16:9]
What are the ways that separate people from the path of Allaah, and what is the way of Allaah? What is the meaning of the hadeeth narrated by Ibn Mas’ood, according to which the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) drew a line and said, “This is the path of guidance,” then he drew lines to its right and another to its left and said, “These are other paths and on each path there is a devil calling people to it”?
“A group among my ummah will continue to follow the truth and to be victorious, and they will not be harmed by those who forsake them or oppose them, until the command of Allaah comes to pass when they are like that.” The truth lies in following the Quran and the saheeh, unambiguous Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). This is the path of Allah, this is the Straight Path. This is the straight line mentioned in the hadeeth of Ibn Mas’ood, and this is what was followed by the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) (may Allaah be pleased with them and with their followers among the early generations (salaf) of this ummah, and with those who follow their path). All other tareeqahs or groups are the paths mentioned in the verse (interpretation of the meaning):
“… and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His path…”
[al-An’aam 6:153]

Dear brother/sisters,
In our beautiful Deen, Allah (SWT) has mentioned to us the correct methods of worship, including methods of His rememberance, which have been illustrated in the Sunnah of Rasoolullah (SAW), who said, “He who innovates something in this matter of ours (Islam) that is not of it will have it rejected” (Arabic: man ahdatha fee amrina haadha maa laysa minhu fa hua radd) [Bukhari/Muslim]. Many of our pious predecessors (Salaf as-Swaaliheen) said that this hadith was one third of all knowledge.
The meaning of this hadith is that any form of worship which was not done by the Prophet (SAW), or at least it was not approved by him, then that form of worship is haraam as it is a bid’ah (an innovation). This is a concensus among scholars and there is no doubt in this matter.
Therefore, for example, if somebody decides to pray 5 rakah for zuhr rathar than the 4 as described in the Sunnah, then this prayer is not accepted, unless he/she does it out of forgetfulness. However, doing so ojn purpose is in fact one of the sins that will, unless repented for, hugely increases the chances that this person will go to the Hell-fire.
Doing “dhikr” in formal congregations, any of which are mixed (i.e. male and female together), is most definatley not from the sunnah of Rasoolullah (SAW). Yes, dhikr should be done, but it is to be done in a way that has been prescribed by al-Habeeb (SAW). For example he (SAW) has mentioned doing some dhikr wherever and whenever you can but there’s no hadith hadith mentioning that it is better to do dhikr in congregation.
Simply put, if the Prophet (SAW) and his companions (RA) did not practice a certain form of worship, then it is in fact haraam to do that form of worship.
Also, when the ‘Ulema make rulings in Fiqh, they are about either ma’amalaat (of action) or ibaadah (worship).
For ma’amalaat, the general ruling is:
Everything is halaal unles there is evidence from the Quran or Sunnah to say that it is haraam (e.g. pork & alcohol is haraam because the Quran)
For ibaadah, the ruling is:
Everything thing is haraam unless proven to be halaa throught he Quran and sunnah.
Doing dhikr in congregation and singing words, which even though they may mean good things themselves, are not from the practices of Rasoolullah (SAW).
Think, Rasoolullah (SAW) would have done these things if he thought that they would be beneficial, he was the best worshipper of Allah, the Best of Creation and an Example unto mankind. If he didnt do it, then why do we want to.
Rabbanaa laa tuzigh quloobana ba’da izdh hadaytana wa hablana milladunka rahmah; innaka antal wahhab
(Our Lord! Cause not our hearts to stray after Thou hast guided us, and bestow upon us mercy from Thy Presence. Indeed, Thou, only Thou, art the Bestower of bounties without measure) – Surah Al-Imran, Verse 8
Allahu ‘Alam
As salam ‘aleykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
Jazakum Allah khairn; a useful list in case I ever want to add some new sites to my bookmarks.
asalamo 3alekom, did muhammad call hisself a sufi? no he didnt so why do u! shame on u muslims who attack noorulislam authobilleh u r doing a great injustice to this brother.
Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The gravest sin is going to lengths in talking unjustly against a Muslim’s honour, and it is a major sin to abuse twice for abusing once. – Dawud :: Book 41 : Hadith 4859
please muslims stop the division and obey ur creator and messenger
The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said,
“O Allaah bestow your blessings on our Shaam. O Allaah bestow your blessings on our Yemen.” The people said, “O Messenger of Allaah, and our Najd.” I think the third time the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said, “There (in Najd) will occur earthquakes, trials and tribulations, and from their appears the Horn of Satan.”
Reported in al-Bukhaaree [Book of Trials, Chpt. 'The afflictions will come from the East' 9/166 no. 214 Eng. Trans]
A hadeeth which has some controversy surrounding it due to obvious sectarian reasons. A hadeeth which has been (deliberately) misunderstood by certain groups of people in order that they may spread their misguidance and deceive ignorant Muslims.
This because upon research and investigation and looking to the words of our early scholars we find that this hadeeth does not refer to the Najd that is famously known in Saudi today, but rather it refers to Iraaq.
About two years ago I read a book entirely devoted to this hadeeth entitled, “an-Najd Qarnu ash-Shaytaan” [I cannot remember the author as I do not have the book on me anymore.] I will quote in general from what I remember from this book, and refrain from mentioning precise quotes except from those references that I have on me.
Amongst the scholars that are mentioned who referred this hadeeth to Iraaq were: al-Khattaabee, al-Kirmaanee, al-Aynee, an-Nawawee, ibn Hajr and others. The reasons behind this are numerous and clear:
The Generality of the Hadeeth Pertaining to the Fitna Coming from the East.
Al-Bukhaaree includes this hadeeth in the chapter: “The affliction will appear from the East”
212) From the father of Saalim: The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, stood up besides the pulpit (and pointed towards the east) and said: “Afflictions are there! Afflictions are there! From where appears the horn of Satan” or he said, “the horn of the Sun”
213) From ibn Umar that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu alyahi wa sallam, saying while facing the east: “Indeed Afflictions are there, from where appears the Horn of Satan.”
214) The hadeeth of Najd under discussion.
Similar hadeeth can be found in Saheeh Muslim (volume 4 no.’s. 6938+). Hadeeth that give the same meaning can be found in Saheeh Muslim (volume 1 no.’s 83+)
That the Generality of the Early Trials and Tribulations arose from the East, many of them actually in Iraaq itself.
Ibn Hajr al-Asqalaanee said after quoting the words of al-Khattaabee explaining the meaning of Qarn (horn), “and others have said that the People of the East were disbelievers at that time and the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, informed us that the trials and tribulations would arise from that direction and it was as he said. And the first of the trials that arose, arose from the direction of the east and they were the reason for the splitting of the Muslim ranks, and this is what Satan loves and delights in. Likewise the innovations appeared from that direction.” [Fath al-Baaree 13/58 in commentary to the hadeeth of Najd]
Amongst the trials that arose in Iraaq and the east was the martyrdom of Alee, the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, the first battle between the Muslims occurred in Iraaq, and many more.
Imaam Nawawee mentions that one of the greatest trials to appear from the East will be the appearance of the Dajjaal. [Sharh Saheeh Muslim 2/29]
From the innovations that appeared in the east and specifically Iraaq, was many of the early deviant sects amongst them the Qadariyyah (as the first hadeeth in Muslim shows), the Jahmiyyah and their offshoots etc…
That at the time of the Prophet, sallaahu alayhis wa sallaam, there were 13 places known as Najd [according to 'Najd Qarnu ash-Shaytaan'] depending on where one was. This because Najd linguistically means a raised/elevated land. Therefore the Arabs referred to lands that were elevated with respect to them as Najd. One of the most commonly referred to areas at that time as Najd was Iraaq.
The Najd for those people living in Madeenah in the direction of the East would be Iraaq.
Ibn Hajr said: “al-Khattaabee said: ‘the najd in the direction of the east, and for the one who is in Madeenah then his Najd would be the desert of Iraaq and it’s regions [baadiya al-Iraaq wa Nawaaheehaa] for this is to the east of the People of Madeenah. The basic meaning of Najd is that which is raised/elevated from the earth in contravention to al-Gawr for that is what is lower than it. Tihaamah [the coastal plain along the south-western and southern shores of the Arabian Peninsula] is entirely al-Gawr and Mecca is in Tihaamah.’”
Ibn Hajr continues, “by this [saying of al-Khattaabee] the weakness of the saying of ad-Daawodee is understood that ‘Najd is in the direction of Iraaq’ [min Naahiya al-Iraaq] for he suggests that Najd is a specific place. This is not the case, rather everything that is elevated with respect to what adjoins it is called Najd and the lower area called Gawr.” [Fath al-Baaree 13/58-59]
Al-Mubaarakfooree endorses these words in his commentary to Sunan at-Tirmidhee (10/314 no.4212)
The Hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim [4/1505 no.6943]
Saalim bin Abdullaah bin Umar said: O people of Iraaq, how strange is it that you ask about the minor sins but commit the major sins? [The killing of al-Husayn] I heard my father, Abdullaah bin Umar narrating that he heard the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, saying while pointing his hand to the east: “Indeed the turmoil would come from this side, from where appear the horns of Satan and you would strike the necks of one another…”
The Variations in Wording of the Hadeeth of Najd that Leave no Doubt Whatsoever as to what it refers to.
The hadeeth of ibn Umar Reported by Abu Nu’aym in al-Hilya (6/133), “O Allaah bestow your blessings on our Madeenah, and bestow your blessings on our Mecca, and bestow your blessings on our Shaam, and bestow your blessings on our Yemen, and bestow your blessings in our measuring (fee saa’inaa wa muddinaa).” A person said, ” O Messenger of Allaah and in our Iraaq” and so he turned away from him and said, “there will occur earthquakes, trials and tribulations and there will appear the horn of Satan.”
Shu’ayb al-Arna’ut declares it’s isnaad to be saheeh as in his footnotes to ‘Sharh as-Sunnah’ (14/206-207 fn. 2) and he too endorses the words of al-Khattaabee quoted above.
The hadeeth of ibn Umar reported in at-Tabaraanee in ‘al-Awsat’ that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam prayed Fajr and then faced the people and said, “O Allaah bestow your blessings on our Madeenah, O Allaah bestow your blessings in our measuring, O Allaah bestow your blessings in our Shaam and our Yemen.” A person said, “And Iraaq O Messenger of Allaah?” He said, “from there arises the horn of Satan and the trials and tribulations would come like mounting waves.”
Ibn Hajr al-Haythamee says in his ‘Mujma az-Zawaa’id’ (3/305 – chapter ‘collection of du’aas made for (Madeenah)’): ‘its narrators are trustworthy and precise.’
[This hadeeth could possibly considered to be the same as b) above, but I have included it separately due to the slight difference in wording. Allaah knows best.]
The hadeeth of ibn Abbaas reported by at-Tabaraanee in ‘al-Kabeer’ that the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, supplicated and said, “O Allaah bestow your blessings on our Shaam and Yemen.” A person from amongst the people said, “O Prophet of Allaah and Iraaq?” He said, “indeed there is the Horn of Satan, and the trials and tribulations will come like mounting waves, and indeed harshness/coarseness is in the east.”
Al-Haythamee says: “it’s narrators are trustworthy and precise.” (ibid.)
The Virtues of Bani Tameem
Bani Tameem constitute the majority of the inhabitants of the Najd that is in Saudi Arabia.
The hadeeth of Saheeh Bukhaaree reported by Abu Hurayra (RA): “I have loved the people of the tribe of Bani Tameem, ever since I heard three things the Messenger of Allaah , sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said about them. I heard him saying, ‘these people (of the tribe of Bani Tameem) would stand firm against the Dajjaal.’ When the Saddaqat from that tribe came, the Messenger of Allaah , sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said, “these are the Saddaqat (charitable gifts) of our folk.” Aa’ishah had a slave girl from that tribe, and the Prophet , sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said to Aa’ishah, ‘manumit her as she is a descendant of Ismaa’eel, alayhis salaam.’”
[Hadeeth no. 2543, 4366 of al-Fath] Ibn Hajr al-Asqalaanee said, “this hadeeth also contains a clear mention of the excellence and superiority of Bani Tameem.” [Fath 5/217]
The hadeeth of Ikrimah from one of the Companions reported in the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad and in it occurs, “do not say of Bani Tameem anything but good, for indeed they are the severest of people in attacking the Dajjaal.”
Al-Haythamee says: “its narrators are those of the Saheeh.” [Mujma 10/48 chpt: What is reported concerning Bani Tameem]
It is not strange that Bani Tameem would be the most severe against the Dajjaal, because the tools required to combat him are none but a correct and firm belief and proper beneficial knowledge. Alhumdolillaah many of the scholars of Saudi are from the most noble and skilled scholars on the face of this earth today, firmly upon the way of our noble Messenger, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam.
This is what Allaah has allowed me to very quickly put together. And our Lord Most High Knows best.
